The windsurf rig must be connected properly with the board in order to prevent any danger for the surfer. A reliable mastfoot and a baseplate can help. The baseplate has the size of a palm and is shaped like a plate. With the help of a slot nut, you can attach ist in the mast trck of your surfboard. On this base plate, you can lock the mast foot that you push into the base part of the mast. There are two different lock systems that are established on the market: On the one hand the US Cup system, on the other hand the universal pin system. The latter is very common in Europe: It has a metal pin with a diameter of about 10 mm that you insert in the mast base. The US System with a cup is more popular in the USA. Until today, people discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both systems, but there is no scientificly secured answer on the question which system is better. Anyway, you need to make sure that both your baseplate and your mast foot are equipped with the same system to maintain the compatibility of all your gear.
In most cases, you will not be able to find a mast that is perfectly compatible for your sail as modern windsurf masts are offered in length gradations of 30 cm. It must be a coincidence to find a windsurf sail that needs a luff of 370, 400, 430, 460, 490, 520 or 550 cm. But that is no problem: Just pick a shorter mast and extend it with a mast extension that you adjust to the desired length and that you push into the bottom part of the mast. With most mast extensions, you can extent the mast length by 0 to 15, 0 to 30 cm, 0 to 45 or even to 50 cm. They are available both in RDM and RDM diametre, and regarding the materials, you can choose between aluminium, carbon or even wood. Depending on the brand, you can get them with or without an integrated trim adaptor / trim system. This is our range of extensions: Windsurf mast extensions
